Introduction

We designed Aethe as your talking place. Whether you're part of a club, gaming group, a world-class arts community, or just a handful of friends looking to spend time together, Aethe makes it easy to talk and spend more time every day.

We can access user data in the Aethe application from any device and use this data on other platforms.

As described in our Terms of Service, we allow users to add content in a number of different ways; including through direct messages and in small and large communities. Some of these areas are public, and if you share content within them, it can be accessed by many people, including people you don't know. Other server owners can post the server invite link on their public website. Anyone can access these servers and you should be aware that server owners or administrators set these permissions and permissions such as the size of a server can change over time.

Information we collect

We collect some information when you use Aethe. This includes information you provide to us, information we collect automatically, and information we receive from other sources.

Account info. When you create an Aethe account, you can create a username and password and provide a way to contact you (such as an email address and/or phone number). You will also need to indicate your date of birth. To access certain features or communities, you may need to verify your account or add other information (such as a verified phone number) to your account. You may also have the option to add your name or nicknames.

Content you create. This includes any content you upload to the service. For example, you can write messages (including drafts), create custom emojis, or upload and share files through the services. This also includes your profile information and information you provide when you create servers. We generally do not store the content of video or audio calls or channels. If we change this in the future (for example, to facilitate content management), we will explain this to you in advance. When you share your screen, we also don't store the stream content, but we do keep the thumbnail cover image of the stream for a short time.

Purchase information. If you purchase any paid service through Aethe, you may be required to provide a valid payment method and relevant billing information, including your full name and billing address. Our payment processors such as Stripe and PayPal receive and process your payment information. In addition, depending on the processor, we may receive and store certain billing information, including the last four digits of the credit card number associated with the transaction. If we decide to process our own payments in the future, we will collect and process this information ourselves.

Information from your transactions. We collect information about your use of the Services and your activities on the Services. This includes friends you add, servers or other communities you join, your roles on servers, content management decisions you make, and other related actions.

Information used to enable optional features. Some features, such as contact sync, may require you to provide additional information (or give us access to that information) in order for these to work. This also includes information about the third-party integrations you choose to enable, and data you authorize these third-party services to share with us. For example, when you link a streaming music account, we collect information about that account, such as the song you're listening to (if you choose to do so), to display that information on your profile and status.

Other information you provide directly to us. You may have the option to provide additional information while using Aethe. For example, you may choose to participate in our verified server program, which requires you to provide additional information about yourself or your company. Or you can participate in surveys where you can provide feedback on the product or send information to our Aethe Support teams.

How we use your information

We use your information for the following purposes:

To provide services to you. We use your information to provide you with Aethe services. For example, when you initiate a video call, we process your images and audio to make it happen. Similarly, we collect and store the messages you send and display them according to your instruction. We also use the information you provide to us to create and manage your account and to facilitate purchases. When you enable optional features (like linking your Aethe account to other platforms), we use information from those services to run that feature (like viewing what song you're listening to on another service within the Aethe app).

To fulfill our commitments to the ethnocommunity. We work hard to try to make Aethe a safe, positive and inclusive place. To do this, we use your information to track and take action against users and content that violates our Terms of Service, Community Guidelines, and other policies. This includes responding to user reports, identifying fraud and malware, and proactively scanning attachments and other content for illegal or harmful content. We also use certain information, including content and public posts reported to us, to develop and improve systems that can be automated to more quickly identify, categorize and take action against prohibited content or behavior.

To customize the product. We use your information to provide, customize and improve our services. This information runs our discovery surfaces (so you can see relevant communities or content first) and helps us uncover Aethe features and promotions from us and our partners that might be of interest to you. As described in the “How to control your privacy” section below, you can choose whether to allow us to customize your Aethe experience.

to contact you. We use your information to contact you in relation to your account, such as verifying or securing them with two-factor authentication. We may also use your information to contact you about important product or policy changes, to send you information about products you have purchased, or to inform you about new products or features that we think you will like. You can opt out of receiving marketing communications. If required by local law, we will seek your consent before sending such communications.

To provide customer service. We use your information to respond to your questions about our products and services and to investigate errors or other issues.
For our legitimate business interests

To protect our services. We use the information to keep our services secure, prevent abuse, and enforce them against users who violate our Terms of Service and other policies.

To prepare reports on our company's performance. We use your information to monitor the key metrics of our business, prepare financial reports, respond to regulatory obligations, and troubleshoot billing issues.

To improve our services. We use your information to help us understand how users interact with our services, what features or products they may request, or in any other way to understand and improve our services. This includes information about how our services are used and how servers are configured. We can also use public posts, for example, to better understand what topics their public servers cover and what content is most interesting on those servers. You can control whether your data is used for these purposes, as described in the "How to control your privacy" section below.

To advertise our services on other platforms. We are proud of the product we produce and spend money to advertise it on other platforms to bring more users to Aethe. As part of this, we use certain information to help serve our ads and to measure the effectiveness of ads for our own products and to improve such advertising in the future.

To comply with our legal obligations

We retain and use your information when necessary in connection with potential legal claims and for compliance, regulatory and audit purposes. For example, we retain information when required by law or when required by a court order or regulatory authority. In addition, when you exercise any of your applicable legal rights to access, change or delete your personal information, we may ask you for identification and verification documents to confirm your identity.

‍With your consent

‍We may also collect and use personal information with your consent. You can revoke your consent at any time (mostly through our services directly), though note that you might not be able to use any service or feature that requires collection or use of that personal information.

‍To protect someone's vital interests

We may collect or share personal data if we believe a person's life is in danger; for example, to help resolve a medical emergency.

How we share your information

when you tell us. When you add content to the Services, you are telling us to share that content with certain communities and people, or in the case of public domains, with those who access it. Who can access this information is determined by who has access to a particular community. Server owners or administrators set these permissions, and they control whether a server requires an invite connection or whether it is open and accessible to anyone. And like the size of the server, these permissions can change over time. Similarly, when you link your Aethe account to a third-party service (such as a music streaming service), or join a server with third-party features such as bots enabled, you may be telling us to share certain information with that service or with other Aethe users. You can control this post as described in the "How to control your privacy" section below. We may also share your information as you instruct us or because you have given us permission.

We may also share limited information with advertising platforms to help us reach people we think will like our product and to measure the performance of our ads shown on those platforms. We do this to bring more users to Aethe and only provide the information necessary to facilitate these services. This may include information such as installing our app or signing up to use Aethe.

To comply with the law. We may share information in response to a request for information if we believe disclosure is required by law, including to meet national security or law enforcement requirements. Where permitted and possible, we will endeavor to give you advance notice before disclosing your information in response to such a request. Our Transparency Report includes additional information about how we respond to requests from governments and law enforcement agencies.
In an emergency. We may share information if we believe in good faith that it is necessary to prevent serious harm to a person.

International data transfers

We are located in Turkey and we process and store information on servers in Turkey. We may also store information on servers and hardware in other countries, depending on a variety of factors, including the locations of our users and service providers. These data transfers enable us to offer our services to you. By accessing or using our Services or providing us with information, you understand that your information will be processed, transferred and stored in the United States and other countries where different data protection standards may apply and/or you may not have rights under them under local law.

Services offered by third parties

We allow third-party developers to create certain features or other services and make them available within Aethe services. For example, server administrators can add “robots” created by third-party developers that provide features such as content management and interactive games. Similarly, you may have access to games or activities created by third parties within the Services.

These third-party services must follow all policies that apply to them (usually including our Developer Terms of Service and Developer Policy). As part of these policies, we require developers to have a privacy policy that clearly states what they do with your information. Please review these privacy policies as they describe what bots and apps can do with your information. We also require some popular bots to apply for access before accessing certain data. However, as these services are operated by third parties, we do not control them or what information they collect. Whether or not you join a server that uses robots and interact with third-party services in general is up to you.
